Lab Review Interpretation
Traditional laboratory interpretation is designed to identify disease. Functional laboratory interpretation goes a step further by looking for early patterns, nutritional deficiencies, inflammation, hormone imbalances, metabolic dysfunction, and other subtle changes that may contribute to symptoms long before disease develops. If you have been told your labs are normal, but still don't feel well, it is worth getting a functional lab interpretation. If you don't have recent labs and need a lab order, we can help with that. We send lab orders to Labcorp and Quest Diagnostic for our clients.

Normal Does Not Always Mean Optimal
Many people are told their labs are normal because the values fall within a population reference range. Reference ranges are developed using large populations that include individuals with chronic illness, metabolic disease, and nutritional deficiencies.
A value can be considered "normal" by the laboratory while still being less than ideal for optimal health and symptom resolution. Functional interpretation focuses on identifying patterns that may explain why you still don't feel well, even when your physician has told you everything looks fine.
What Makes Our Interpretation Different
Most providers look for values outside the laboratory reference range to diagnose disease. Functional lab interpretation takes a different approach by evaluating patterns across your entire lab panel. We assess how markers relate to one another, compare them to optimal functional ranges, identify subtle trends, and connect those findings with your symptoms and health history. This often uncovers patterns that may deserve further investigation or support long before disease develops.
The Issue May be Incomplete Labs
Many routine physicals include only basic screening labs. For example, I have heard so many times, "My thyroid was tested and it is fine." When I review the lab results I find the thyroid wasn't completely tested. Most doctor offices only perform one or two of the SIX tests that complete a thyroid function test. If additional testing would provide a more complete picture, I'll let you know exactly what is missing and why it matters before making recommendations
Why Functional Interpretation Is Different
Traditional interpretation often asks one question:
"Is this result outside the laboratory reference range?"
Functional interpretation asks much deeper questions:
-
Why is this marker moving in this direction?
-
Which markers support the same underlying pattern?
-
Are symptoms consistent with the laboratory findings?
-
Is there evidence of nutrient depletion?
-
Are hormone pathways functioning optimally?
-
Is inflammation contributing to symptoms?
-
Could digestion, stress, or metabolism explain these results?
Instead of looking at isolated numbers, we evaluate how your laboratory markers work together to create a complete picture of your health.
Let us help you by reviewing your lab work and coming up with a plan to get you on track to feeling better! We have different options to choose from, but if you don't see what you need, send us a message. Many of our plans are customizable to fit just what you need.

The best recommendations begin with the right information. If you don't have recent laboratory work, or your previous testing doesn't provide a complete picture, we can help you identify the most appropriate tests before your interpretation. We offer convenient self-pay testing without the need for insurance.
